Next generation access 'will transform data centre management'
26/11/2009
Investment in next generation access to broadband internet will change the way that businesses operate, according to IT experts gathered for a conference.
The Daily Telegraph, which organised the event with BT Business, reported that the benefits of faster and stronger internet connections could go well beyond just transforming the way that businesses interact with their customers.
Jerry Thompson, BT's director of products and online, said that next generation access could also have a large effect on cloud computing and data centres.
"One of the biggest trends in our industry is having cloud-based applications that can be accessed by multiple people in multiple locations. That requires a mobile broadband connection for sales people and service people on the move."
Mr Thompson also commented that high internet connectivity speeds will also enable firms to maintain the security of their intellectual property.
Other business aspects such as videoconferencing would be made available to the majority of staff, allowing them to have 'face-to-face' meetings with partners, clients and senior staff in other parts of the country.
