Fears of 'jobless recovery' fuelled by recruitment firm
25/11/2009
IT operators have yet to start hiring again as the UK attempts to battle through the current economic downturn.
Recruitment experts Harvey Nash said hopes that better sentiment would lead to a demand for jobs have proved unfounded so far, as firms have put off hiring staff.
"Although we continue to see increased demand for our IT outsourcing services, it has now become clear that positive sentiment is not yet resulting in increased demand for permanent recruitment," said the group.
A Harvey Nash spokesman added that ongoing job woes would continue into 2010 after its underlying profits in the third quarter of this year slumped by 72 per cent with no sign of an upturn for the rest of 2009.
Last month, the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills urged IT operators to 'stick with it', adding that technology was going to play a major role in helping the UK escape from the recession.
