Expert: Price pressure is on for PC sales market
24/11/2009
IT operators are expected to find it hard to sell top range PCs as the current economic climate continues to take its toll.
The latest Gartner report on the worldwide PC market has shown that 2.8 per cent growth will occur this year, although it is also expected that revenues will fall.
Commenting on the figures, Natalie Spitz, senior analyst at high-tech market data firm Canalys, said that price pressure is still on for PCs and she expected sales of machines over £900 to remain difficult.
"Prices might marginally go up in the next couple of quarters following component price increases," she added.
Ms Spitz said that PC makers can optimise their revenues by selling notebooks as they are rapidly replacing desktops in the consumer and profession segments.
Moving towards higher margin products and limiting after sales issues and returns can also help firms to make money, she added.
