Christmas parties 'are key to keeping staff happy'
24/11/2009
Keeping IT operators happy by organising events such as Christmas parties can help to drive productivity, an expert has claimed.
Jonathan Austin, founder and chief executive of research firm Best Companies, said that although there might be a temptation to cancel annual arrangements because of the current economic climate, getting a team together is crucial.
"I'm not saying spend the same amount of money as you might have done last year or the previous year on a Christmas party. Getting teams together is important - not just on a departmental level, but on a collective level," he added.
Mr Austin also said that IT operators should be thanked for their efforts over the past year, while achievements that the company has made should also be highlighted.
Staff should be given upbeat and positive messages and wherever possible, managers should paint a picture beyond that of the difficult financial situation.
Finally, Mr Austin said that any Christmas break should be enjoyed as much as possible, adding that everyone needs time to refresh and see what opportunities the New Year can bring.
